"The Quick And Easy Way To Be Confident You Have Chosen The Right Cat Food!"

Choosing the correct Cat Food can be the difference between a healthy, happy cat or one that becomes overweight with serious health problems.

Of course, we all want a healthy cat but with all of the choices out there, how do you know for sure the Cat Food you are buying is meeting the nutritional needs of your pet?

  1. Always look for a Premium Cat Food. Store or generic brands usually contain fillers and poorer, cheaper quality ingredients. Studies show that cats will eat until they get the nutrients they need. They could possibly eat twice as much of the cheap cat food to get the benefits of a normal portion of a healthy cat food.

"No matter how much the cats fight, there always seem to be plenty of kittens"

--Abraham Lincoln:

  1. Check the label. Cat Food labels have rules that the manufactures must abide by.

"Pet Food Label Rules"

The 95% Rule: If the product says "Salmon Cat Food" 95% of the product must be the named ingredients. A product with a combination label, such as "Beef and Liver for Cats" must contain 95% beef and liver, and there must be more beef than liver, since beef is named first.

The 25% or "Dinner" Rule: Ingredients named on the label must be at least 25% of the product but less than 95%, when there is a qualifying descriptor term like "dinner, entree, formula, platter, nuggets," etc. If two ingredients are named, the two ingredients must total 25% and there must be more of the first ingredient than the second, and there must be at least 3% of the lesser ingredient.

The 3% or "With" Rule: A product may be labeled "Cat Food with Salmon" if it contains at least 3% of the named ingredient.

The "Flavor" Rule: A food may be labeled "Turkey Flavor Cat Food" even if the food does not contain such ingredients, as long as there is a "sufficiently detectable" amount of flavor. This may be derived from meals, by-products, or "digests" of various parts from the animal species indicated on the label.

Are you bored now? I'm sorry, but as you can see, you have to be very careful of what you are buying. By choosing a natural cat food you can rest easy knowing your loved pet will be getting the nutrients it needs.

"Dry Cat Food Or Canned Cat Food? That Is The Question"

Cats are Carnivores, they need meat protein. Some cat nutrition experts recommend a quality canned Cat Food diet, while others tout the benefits of a Dry Cat Food for teeth and gum care. So what's a responsible cat owner to do?

A Premium canned cat food diet is probably your best choice. Three to four small feeding per day are recommended. In the wild cats feed on rodents and birds.

But what if you can't be home during the day? Most experts agree that feeding canned cat food in the morning and evening, while leaving some dry cat food out during the day will give your cat a well balanced diet.

"Cats seem to go on the principle that it never does any harm to ask for what you want"

--Joseph Wood Krutch:
